Low-voltage shops install structured cabling, networks, security cameras, access control, and AV — the rare "electrical" business you can build without the five-year 309A apprenticeship, because much of the work sits outside the licensed electrical scope.

The licensing layer, explained

Most low-voltage work (communications cabling, data, CCTV, access control at extra-low voltage) falls outside the 309A/LEC licensing gate — but the boundary matters: anything connecting to line-voltage power, and certain alarm/life-safety work, pulls in licensed-electrician or CFAA territory. Industry certifications (BICSI for structured cabling) and manufacturer certifications (cameras, access control) are the credibility layer.
