Electrical (Building Services) Engineer

Building-services electrical engineers design power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for buildings. The "E" in MEP, they design and stamp what the electrical trade installs — and increasingly handle EV charging, solar, and smart-building systems.

The credential, explained

Electrical building-services engineering is practised under a P.Eng licence, applying the Electrical Safety Code, Building and Fire Codes, and lighting/energy standards. A firm offering services to the public needs a PEO Certificate of Authorization and professional liability insurance. (This is the design discipline, distinct from the electrical contracting trade and its ESA licence.)
