Commissioning Provider

Professional designation, not a licence

Commissioning providers verify that a building's systems actually perform the way they were designed — testing HVAC, controls, and electrical before handover and tuning them after. It is a quality-assurance business, required for LEED and increasingly demanded by owners and codes.

The credential, explained

Commissioning is not a licensed profession; the recognized credentials are the ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP), AABC Commissioning Authority (CxA), BCxA, and NEBB certifications. Most providers come from mechanical or electrical engineering and building-systems backgrounds. Where the work constitutes engineering, a P.Eng applies; otherwise a credential and a track record gate the work.
