Build a design or construction base
Most BIM/VDC consultants come from architecture, engineering, or construction. Understanding how buildings are actually designed and built is what separates a coordinator from a software operator.

Designer side (BIM)
Modelling and BIM management inside architecture/engineering firms — design models, standards, documentation. Closer to the design world and its culture.
Best for: People from a design/technologist background.
Contractor side (VDC)
Virtual Design & Construction for GCs — coordination, clash detection, 4D scheduling, 5D cost, scan-to-BIM, and field integration. More money, more construction reality.

The people who rise understand how buildings actually go together, not just how to model them.

VDC director, your own BIM/VDC services consultancy (a real, ownable business serving designers and GCs), or laterally into construction technology, digital-delivery leadership, software/product roles, or project management. As the field automates, the durable seats are the ones that combine construction judgment with technology — pure modelling is the most exposed, leadership and integration the most secure.
